Harnessing indigenous planning for resource conservation in Ghana
Résumé
Abstract Using a qualitative approach, the purpose of this research was to critically analyse the role of indigenous planning on resource conservation in Ghana which was conceptualized as degrowth. Using three traditional areas located in the coastal, forest and savannah zones in Ghana, the study interviewed 15 traditional leaders. The findings showed that taboos that protects the ecosystem from overexploitation for economic pursuit were influenced by the belief that plants, animals and water bodies have some spiritual and cultural significance. Through the lens of indigenous planning, this works adds to the understanding of degrowth within socio-spatial planning.
